Alice Sloan Trust forms valued partnerships with organisations and individuals to provide opportunities for young people to participate in a range of pursuits.
A WEEKEND OF FUN AND FRIENDSHIP
We are very excited to introduce our newest program.
In March 2022, in partnership with the Outdoor Education Foundation, we held our first Weekend of Fun and Friendship.
This project was born from a conversation recognising how challenging the last 2 years of lockdowns have been for young people living in Melbourne. We wanted to facilitate a fun and memorable trip away for a group of high school students who may not otherwise have had this opportunity. The aim of this weekend is to give young women an opportunity to participate in new experiences, to find friendships and a space for self-reflection.
The first weekend was a wonderful success. In early 2024, the third fun and friendship camp was held. We look forward to supporting this event into the future. You can see photos and read more here.
HEADS TOGETHER FOR ABI FAMILY CAMP
The Trust has had a partnership with Heads Together for ABI for over 15 years. We are proud to support such a terrific organisation to provide camps and other fun activities for young people with an Acquired Brain Injury and their families.
Partnership with Melbourne Indigenous Transitional School
In partnership with the Melbourne Indigenous Transitional School (MITS), the Alice Sloan Trust offered financial and in-kind support for a lunch at Charcoal Lane where students share indigenous food and practice a range of skills aimed at building social confidence.
We were thrilled to fund a snow camp for students at MITS in early August 2023. They had a brilliant time.
We look forward to working with MITS in the future to support other opportunities for their students and community.
THE ANNUAL ALICE SLOAN EXPEDITION AND YOUTH LEADERSHIP PROGRAM
Commencing in 2007, the Alice Sloan Expedition took place each year in January. We are proud to have partnered with the Alexandra Secondary College (ASC) and the Outdoor Education Group (OEG) over the past 17 years to run 17 expeditions. The Alice Sloan Trust provided funding and in-kind support for a 10 day expedition for Year 11 female students. In 2022, this program won National Outdoor Education Program of the Year award.
In March 2023, we had a final partnership meeting as have collectively decided to end this program.
Titled “Our Mountains Our Journey”, the students participated in a range of challenging activities in the Alexandra – Eildon region of central Victoria. Activities include: camping, bushwalking, rafting and cycling.
The expedition provides the platform for participation in the two-year Alice Sloan Youth Leadership program.
On completion of the 10-day expedition, students were invited to participate in a range of leadership activities over the final two years of their secondary schooling.
Designed to foster personal development and leadership skills, the students took part in fundraising, peer support, volunteer work and public speaking
Along with the Trust, ASC and OEG, this program was supported by many organisations within and outside the Murrundini Shire, including Alexandra Rotary, Toorak College in Mount Eliza, Murrundindi Shire, Marysville Triangle and the Cathedral Primary School cluster.
OUTDOOR EDUCATION AND PLAY PROGRAMS
Since 2013 the Alice Sloan Trust has funded a camp for all children in Grade 3 and 4 who attend Aldercourt Primary School in Frankston. In-kind support is provided by Alice Sloan Trust volunteers as well as students of Toorak College. The camp offers children, who may not otherwise have this opportunity with three days of fun and adventure-filled activities. Students at Aldercourt Primary School enjoyed a 3 day camp in 2024, you can see the photos on our Facebook page.
HEALSVILLE L – P PROGRAM
In partnership with the Healesville Indigenous Community Services Association (HICSA), the Alice Sloan Trust purchased a car to operate an L-P Drivers Education program.
Young learners partner with volunteer instructors to help them achieve their 120 hours of supervised driving experience in the donated car.
Volunteers offer their time to support the young learners and build up a relationship to support their driving development.
BREAKFAST PROGRAM
The Alice Sloan Trust provides a weekly breakfast program and peer support to primary students at Frankston East Primary School. Students from the Alice Sloan Trust Student Committee of Toorak College facilitate this program with additional volunteers.
